What is it for?

Off is a simple utility that replaces functionality of Palm's off button. Two icons appear in the command bar. It pops up at the bottom of the display wh en You make the menu command graffiti stroke.

Tapping on icon switches Your Palm off. Tapping on icon toggles display's backlight on and off. The light icon changes according to backlight status. It may be useful in bright sunlight when it is hard to see whether the backlight is on or off.

How to install Off?

1. Put Off into Palm's memory ( Use the install tool on the PC, beam it or copy from a card )
2. Go to the Prefs application
3. Select Off from the panel list
4. Configure it

How to uninstall Off?

1. Open Prefs application
2. Select Off from the panel list
3. Uncheck both check boxes
4. Delete Off from application launcher

Faq

Off does not work in ... application.
Off works in all applications that have a menu. If Your application does not have a menu, the command bar will not appear when You do the menu command stroke.

I would like to have ... function in the command bar.
Let us know. We are considering a tool that would manage various extensions. All the extensions would be able to add their icons to the command bar and user would select which of them should be active in certain application.

What is the menu command stroke?
The menu command stroke was originally meant as a shortcut stroke for menu commands (like Ctrl key on PC). Look into the Edit menu in the Addressbook. There are many items in this menu with a letter at the end of the item. If you do the menu command stroke followed by the letter, Addressbook will perform the action. In Palm OS 3.5 and higher there is a command bar. Using command bar is more easy than working with menu shortcuts since You can tap an icon without having to remember the letter.

There is nothing new in the menu it does not work!
Yes it works. Off adds icons to the menu command bar not to the menu.

I can not find Off in my Launcher application!
It is O.K. Off is a Preferences panel, not an application.
